SYMPTOMS OF AN UNDIAGNOSED VISION PROBLEM?



Many vision problems can go undetected in a regular eye exam, as most optometrists do not test all the necessary vision skills. That is why we have put together these checklists. they will help you to uncover any undetected vision problems that could be holding you, or your children, back in life.

Children's Symptoms Checklist
THE FOLLOWING ARE SYMPTOMS THAT YOUR CHILD MAY HAVE
A VISION PROBLEM THAT IS INTERFERING WITH
READING AND LEARNING:
  • Avoids tasks that involve reading?
  • Has poor handwriting?
  • Displays awkwardness and/or clumsiness?
  • Has headaches, dizziness or nausea associated with reading or other close work?
  • Omits, inserts or rereads letters and words?
  • Confuses similar looking words?
  • Has difficulty copying from the chalkboard?
  • Misaligns numbers?
  • Exhibits inconsistent or poor sports performance?
  • Has been told he or she has a learning disability?


  • If you checked one or more of the above symptoms, it is strongly advised that you schedule a behavioral vision evaluation.

Adult/Teenager Symptoms Checklist
  • Can understand individual thoughts, but has trouble understanding the whole concept or message.
  • Can understand individual directions, but has trouble putting them together so cannot initiate action based on those directions.
  • Can grasp the general concept, but has difficulty identifying the individual details.
  • Extended reading or computer activities cause eyestrain, headaches or fatigue.
  • Avoidance of reading activities
  • Difficulty judging distances
  • Panic attacks when driving or in open spaces like malls
  • Is unable to look at you when conversing
  • Orientation problems, e.g., poor sense of direction when driving or walking
  • Organizational problems both cognitively and physically -- e.g., poor planning, messy desk, messy room, etc
  • Awkwardness and clumsiness in general movement -- e.g., drops things, bumps into things, seems "spacey."
